Full Sail Career Development Bolsters Offerings with New Technology Tools
Full Sail University helps prepare students for careers in emerging technologies, games, film and television, sports, and entertainment business, while providing them with lifelong career services. Through the Career Development department, students and grads can get feedback on their portfolios and resumes, access unique job leads, and work one-on-one with a career advisor to put their best foot forward when looking for new and exciting job opportunities.
Career Development has recently introduced VMock, an innovative, AI-powered career tool designed to provide additional assistance to advisors who are supporting students and alumni during their job search. This user-oriented platform, accessible on both desktop and mobile, leverages natural language processing to analyze resumes or CVs and help users align with the specific requirements of their target jobs.
After a job-seeker has uploaded a resume for instant, industry-backed insights or has participated in an AI-powered mock job interview, a Career Development advisor will take a deep dive into VMock's analysis of the results, adding their expertise and spotting details and nuances that AI can sometimes miss.
“VMock gives students an objective breakdown of their resume, pointing out areas they can improve in things like presentation and impact,” explains Career Development Data Project Analyst Jessica Pollak. “Then, the career advisors step in to help students apply that feedback in a way that aligns with their personal and career goals. Plus, our advisors bring in that human element — industry insights, personal guidance — that AI can’t quite replicate.”
To help users acclimate to the platform, VMock is introduced in Career Readiness courses before students meet with Career Development advisors.
“In the course, students are guided through modules that provide them with the tools to apply their attained skills toward their employment goals, including creating their resumes and professional presence for potential employers,” explains First Term Initiatives Department Director Angela Spoto. “In the second half of the course, students are introduced to VMock to further apply what they are learning regarding resume best practices and interview preparedness.
“Our implementation [of VMock] gives Full Sail University students and grads the opportunity to produce competitive resumes, understand applicant tracking systems and keyword optimization, as well as gain insight into areas of improvement through its virtual mock interview experience,” adds Angela. “It’s exciting that we have this platform that reflects our commitment as a university to provide our students with real-world education.”
VMock’s Optimizer, which can scan resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and other documents, helps students cover all of their bases in the application process.
“I’m especially excited about the Optimizer tool,” shares Jessica. “It’s incredibly useful because it helps students ensure their resume aligns perfectly with the job they’re applying for, which can make a big difference in getting noticed by recruiters.
“VMock [is] a great fit for Full Sail because it’s all about using technology to help our students get ahead and be industry-ready.”
