Full Sail Students Film Documentary in Costa Rica [Video]
Last summer, Full Sail Film students Alicia Haberman and Leandra Ruppersberg traveled to Talamanca, Costa Rica, as part of a four-member student film crew with media production company Actuality Media. The group gathered footage for a documentary about the Cooperativa de Talamanca Sostensible, an organization working to find a sustainable clean energy source that will prevent oil companies from exploiting the rainforests surrounding their home. The documentary the students shot, produced, and edited explores the history of the cooperative, as well as the ongoing research and efforts they are involved in to help improve the area.
"It was great to have two Full Sail students working together because they already had a film relationship and language for talking about the project," says Aubrie Campbell Canfield, Actuality Media's co-founder and a Full Sail grad. "Their crew was supportive, collaborative, and very creative – and that tone was set from the students' backgrounds."
Actuality Media has given students the opportunity to travel to places like Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica for month-long study abroad-style programs. The students produce documentaries that bring awareness to developing communities in need.
