Full Sail’s TechFest: Bringing STEM to Your School
Full Sail University’s TechFest combines hands-on workshops, interactive demonstrations, and sessions focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education for high school students throughout Florida. By bringing an immersive experience directly to high schools, students discover and explore emerging technology fields while engaging with cutting-edge tools in a dynamic and inspiring environment.
“Sometimes, students just need to hear it from another voice to realize the relevance and excitement of STEM subjects. This exposure helps students gain insights into potential career paths, develop new skills, and connect with like-minded peers and mentors, sparking their interest in STEM and motivating them to pursue higher education and careers in these areas,” shares Andrew Duncan, Senior Director of Outreach at Full Sail.
“The Full Sail team shares their enthusiasm and passion for their programs, inspiring our students to explore the diverse opportunities available in areas such as AR, coding, and esports. Several of my students, particularly those interested in film and game design, are now considering Full Sail as a potential college choice," says Denise C. Spence, an educator at Dunbar High School in Fort Myers.
Workshops & Sessions
TechFest includes a variety of STEM-focused workshops and sessions where high schoolers can get hands-on experience and learn more about emerging technologies. Technology stations offer hands-on product demonstrations, while sessions explore potential careers and studies in esports, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and more. Demonstrations of 3D printing, augmented and virtual reality, and game and mobile development can open students’ eyes to potential careers in fields like AR/VR, software engineering, game development, and game design, says Andrew.
“It’s important for high school students to consider STEM education and careers because these fields are at the forefront of innovation and technological advancement,” he continues. “STEM careers offer numerous opportunities for growth, stability, and impact. By pursuing STEM education, students can develop essential skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and analytical reasoning, which are valuable in any profession.”
High School Invitational
High schools that participate in Tech Fest will be invited to join Full Sail for the High School Invitational esports event at the end of the TechFest season. With the chance to take home scholarship funds for winning competitors, the invitational event also allows students and their teachers to tour the Full Sail facilities and see more of our STEM-focused campus spaces.
“STEM fields are crucial for addressing global challenges and improving quality of life, making them both rewarding and vital for the future,” says Andrew. “TechFest allows students to discover and explore emerging technology fields they may not have known existed.”
“I am deeply appreciative of Full Sail for hosting this event at our school and broadening the horizons of our students regarding their future career paths,” adds Denise.
