Program Director Gus Ramsey gets inducted into the Rollins College Sports Hall of Fame
The school recognized the evolution of a career that started with broadcasting play-by-play of Rollins Athletics
“Great moments are born from great opportunity.”
These famous words were uttered from the renowned U.S. Olympic ice hockey coach Herb Brooks just before his team shocked the world by beating the heavily favored Russian team in the 1980 Olympics.
And our very own Gus Ramsey, Program Director for the Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting, has a career filled with great moments. This spring marked yet another great moment for Ramsey – his induction into the Rollins College Sports Hall of Fame.
As a student at the Winter Park college, Ramsey was a staple on the Rollins' radio station, WPRK, doing play-by-play for Rollins athletics. After graduating from Rollins, he continued to work on his budding broadcasting career by interning at WESH-TV which led him to his first paying job in the industry. In 1994, he joined the ESPN as a producer for SportsCenter and worked with sports broadcasting icons such as Dan Patrick, Chris Berman, Bob Ley, and many others. The bulk of his career was spent at ESPN where he had the opportunity to experience countless great sports moments – World Series, All-Star Games, Final Fours, and the Olympics. During his time in Bristol, he garnered four Emmy awards for his work on Baseball Tonight and SportsCenter. Most recently, he returned to Central Florida to become the Program Director for Full Sail University’s Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting.
“I am humbled and honored to have received this amazing recognition from my alma mater as the recipient of the Athletics Alumni Achievement award. Rollins College runs deep in my family, my parents, brother and sister-in-law all attended this prestigious school,” said Ramsey. “And most importantly, it is where I met my wife.”
The Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1977 to honor the history of Rollins College Athletics and Ramsey now joins 216 esteemed members who embody the rich sports tradition at the school.
Join us in sending Ramsey a very well-deserved congratulations as he now takes on new challenges to create more great moments by training the next generation of sportscasters.
