Student's Work Featured on LeBron James' Website

The idea for the designs came last summer after LeBron and his team, the Miami Heat, won the NBA Championship. "In the interview after the game, the first thing he [LeBron] said was, 'It's about damn time,'" says Ziarekenya. "And I thought to myself, Nike's about to use this as a quote and put it on a T-shirt. And when they never did, I saw it as the perfect opportunity."
In his spare time outside of class, Ziarekenya created the LeBron Crown Diamond Collection, a series of T-shirts inspired by the NBA star. One has the "It's About Damn Time" quote on it, while the others are inspirational quotes Ziarekenya believes can be used to describe LeBron. He put them up on his Behance portfolio website and used Twitter to track down members of LeBron's promotional team to send them the link. To his surprise, he discovered earlier last month that the designs were being featured on LeBronJames.com.
"I was wondering where all of my Behance portfolio views were coming from," says Ziarekenya. "So I googled myself and found my work on LeBron's site."
This isn't the first time Ziarekenya's work has been featured to a wide audience. Last Fall, a typeface design of Michael Jordan he made for his Studio Maintenance class was shared on Nicekicks.com's Instagram feed, where it received more than 30,000 likes.
