Study Media Communications at Full Sail University
Develop a diverse content-creation skillset for today’s fast-paced entertainment and media landscape.
"Every second of every day, millions of posts appear on social media," says Full Sail Program Director Kathy Craven.
"From the time you wake up to the time you go to bed, you will have interacted with some form of video, audio, or text. You are probably contributing to social media on a daily basis," Kathy says. "But do you know how you are influencing others?"
Intro to Media Communications
Initially, students studying media communications will focus on building a strong foundation in media technologies. Students will develop crucial technical skills by getting comfortable with software used throughout media and communications industries. That includes learning how to create logos, print, audio, and video to communicate a professional brand.
Through this curriculum, students begin exploring who they are and who they aspire to be as they create a personal brand and declare their media mission statement. Throughout their studies, they'll build on this personal brand with a curated professional portfolio website that demonstrates their work.
Senior-Level Courses
"The latter half focuses on advancing your skillset and refining your ability to create sophisticated media strategies," Kathy says. Here, students learn keen skills in audience analysis by understanding how individuals and different cultures interact with media.
This area of study also covers important aspects of a career in media communications by explaining how marketing and media work together to engage a target audience through a variety of formats. And courses in interactive media give students the opportunity to get creative with short-form, web-based portfolio projects. This can include a web series, music video, commercial, short film, or journalistic media.
Professional Portfolios
At the end of their studies, students take what they have learned to refine their professional website and better communicate their unique brand. This portfolio site gives our grads a distinct advantage with potential employers by showcasing a variety of their skills in text, video, audio, and interactive media.
Another advantage: Full Sail professors are industry experts who go beyond lecturing to provide true mentorship. "The media communications field is always evolving," says Kathy. "And we ensure that you have access to a wide array of industry-standard media software and online resources within your Project LaunchBox."
Students studying media communications also have the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines with other creative students at Full Sail in areas like game development, digital arts and design, music production, and film.
Kathy explains, "Through this teamwork, you'll witness firsthand just how many industries utilize media strategies and how your skillset is applicable throughout the entertainment and media industry."
